In honor of their god of war, the Romans named the planet Mars. The ancient Egyptians called it "Her Descher" which means "the red one." It is also referred to by its similar nickname, "The Red Planet." Early astronomers saw what they believed to be canals crisscrossing the surface which gave rise to the belief that Mars was inhabited by intelligent beings. VFK Roswell Incident Quest!7:00 A.M. Pacific Time Sunday, May 17th, 2009 to 10:00 P.M. Pacific Time Monday, May 18th, 2009.
Almost sixty-two years ago, an "incident" took place in the desert on a remote ranch northwest of Roswell, New Mexico. A press release by the US military of Roswell Army Air Field was issued on the morning of July 8, 1947. It stated that "the wreckage of a crashed disk (UFO) had been recovered." The press release was sent over the wire services in time to make the afternoon edition of over thirty newspapers. After only hours, a second press release from the Fort Worth Army Air Field in Texas rescinded the first press release and claimed that the debris was from a weather balloon and its radar reflector. At the time, the public accepted the weather balloon story and the incident quietly disappeared. It has been cloaked in secrecy ever since. On today's quest, we will investigate the history of the Roswell "incident" and look into why the incident came back into the public eye, and what data is available surrounding the crashed UFO in Roswell, NM. Member's Gifts Macaws are the members' gift for this month. These friendly birds, originally from Mexico and Central and South America are the largest members of the parrot family. They make fun, affectionate pets and love attention from their owners. Macaws are highly intelligent and with a little patience, you can even teach your Macaw to talk. Your Macaw already knows how to say a few words. To teach it to say more things, simply say your Macaw's name, followed by a word or phrase you want it to learn. If you repeat it enough times, your bird will learn to say it. For instance if your parrot is named Polly, and you wanted to teach it to say that it wants a cracker, you would say "Polly, Polly wants a cracker." 
You can also teach your parrot to respond to a phrase, for instance when someone says "Hi" and you want your parrot to respond, "Hello! How are you?" You would say, "Polly, Hi say Hello! How are you?" Jumping: If your opponent's checker or king blocks your movement and there is an open space beyond it on that diagonal line in the next row, you must jump that piece. You can not jump over your own pieces. A regular piece can make a single jump only diagonally forward. A king can make a single jump diagonally forward or backward. For multiple jumps, a piece or king can change directions, first jumping diagonally one direction then another, jumping one piece at a time. You can not jump over a piece twice. You cannot stop part way through a multiple jump, but must jump all the options available. A regular piece or a king can jump a king. If you have more than one option to jump, you can choose the one you want. There is no requirement that you must chose a particular path based on the number and kind of pieces which can be taken. If you jump your opponent’s piece and the space you land on has the option of jumping an additional piece, you are required to jump and capture the additional piece.

Twilight, or the period just after sunset when the soft light is fading away to darkness has long been considered a magical time. It marks the time when the world "transforms" from day to night, and is symbolic in oral traditions of any kind of complete change. Today we will embark on a 7 day epic quest to be able to assume the form of an animal shape. Ancient and indigenous cultures believe in "shape-shifting." Australian aboriginal elders are said to have the ability to shape-shift, and it is fundamental to the dreamtime foundations of their beliefs. With Twilight enchantment, we will be able to "magically" assume the form of animals from birds in the air to creatures below the sea and a wide range of animals in-between. The first animal that comes with your Twilight Enchantment will be the Wolf. With your Twilight Enchantment, you will be able to aquire additional wildlife shapes, as they become available. Since October is also Halloween month, we will be finding out about the animals that are most closely associated with Halloween. The Twilight Enchantment Epic Quest will be available throughout October. You can begin the quest anytime you wish during the end of this month and at anytime during October, and upon completion you will receive your Twilight Enchantment. This first quest includes a reward of 1,000 credits and the first Twilight Enchantment pin, the Wolf Pin! As you complete each stage of this Epic Quest, you will receive a unique reward and the next Twilight Pin. Each day you can complete the next step in the Epic Quest, receiving your new rewards and progressing towards enchantment. So many creatures dwell under the ocean's surface that we are still discovering mysteries that the watery depths conceal. But among all the tales and stories told of the ocean in all of history, one of the most beloved legends is that of the Merfolk. Merfolk have now come to our world and each of us will have the opportunity to experience the wonders of the depths of the ocean that defines the legends surrounding merfolk lore. However, some things in life can not be bought with gold or silver, but must instead be earned. This is true for the enchantment which makes experiencing the awe and mystery of merfolk possible. To obtain this enchantment we have created an Epic Quest which will be available throughout September. You can begin the quest anytime you wish during this month and upon completion you will receive your Merfolk Enchantment. There are seven quests, each with a unique reward, some of which will be needed for the next step in your journey. The first quest includes a reward of 1,000 credits and the first Merfolk Enchantment pin, the Ocean Pin! As each quest is completed, you will receive a unique reward and the next Merfolk Pin. Each day you can complete the next step in the Epic Quest, receiving your new rewards and progressing towards enchantment. Upon completion of the Epic Quest your reward will be Merfolk Enchantment. Legends in History Month, How to Become "Fairy Enchanted"August, 2008
Note: You can begin your quest for Fairy Enchantment at anytime during the month of August, and you can finish the quest at anytime during the month of September. Legends spring from a time which may predate even the earliest recorded history. They tell of peoples and places which are difficult to even imagine in our present world.
