So, who were the Pilgrims, and why do they symbolize our official holiday of Thanksgiving? The Pilgrims were early settlers of New England. They were the group of colonists who founded the Colony of New Plymouth. Plymouth Colony, as it was also known, was the first permanent settlement in New England. The Pilgrims and the formation of Plymouth Colony are significant in the early history of the American Colonies. On today's quest, let's look at some of the events leading up to the Pilgrim's courageous journey, which lead to their adventures in the New World!

If you feel like you’re having trouble keeping secrets and that people can almost see through you, it might be because you are at the Midnight Halloween Ball!

The 18th Annual Midnight Halloween Ball will begin when the Chimes of Big Ben Strike Thirteen!

That will be the witching hour, Midnight Central Time, Saturday, November 1st, 2025, (1:00 AM Eastern Time (10:00 PM Pacific Time, 6:00 AM in the UK).

Because of our Midnight Halloween Ball on Saturday, we will not switch to single user mode to do server maintenance, but will instead party the night away!

Whatever you wear, you’ll make a ghostly entrance at the Ball! And of course there will be a Special Party Favor!

Saturday Afternoon, November 1st, 2025, we will have our final Halloween Ball at 12:00 PM Pacific Time (3:00 PM Eastern Time, 8:00 pm in the UK) Don’t forget to pick up your special Party Favors at the close of each ball!

Rooms can be entered in the VFK Halloween Skeletastic Room Competition anytime between Monday, September 22nd at 8:30 P.M. Eastern Time (5:30 P.M. Pacific Time) and Sunday, September 28th, 2025 at 8:30 P.M. Eastern Time (5:30 P.M. Pacific Time).

With 18 Halloweens’ worth of Skeletastic Rooms, Rides and haunting furni, your imagination is the limit!

Please make sure to read and follow all directions before submitting your entry.

To register for the contest, you need to go to the room you want to enter. Click on the “I” button for your room, and then click “enter contest.” The competition entry form will be displayed. Then, just fill out the entry form to submit your room in the competition. Any furni in the room will be automatically stored.

The sun is warm and the sand is just the perfect temperature for sculpting, shaping and smoothing your dream Sandcastle!

Rooms can be entered in the Sandcastle Competition between Saturday, August 2nd at 6:00 P.M. Eastern Time (3:00 P.M. Pacific Time) and Tuesday, August 5th, 2025, at 8:00 P.M. Pacific Time.

With the endless Sandcastle and Beach items to build with, (not to mention the approaching Bodacious Sandcastle Collections), let nothing hold you back from your creative goals!

Lazarus has finished readying the next step on your path to Blue Frost Initiate Wizard, the Cursed Conundrum! On this cursed quest, you will be required to deal with deactivating the curse placed on an object and practicing the art of changing fire to frost!

This quest requires that you have great wizardly power, so you must have fully charged up your wizardly power before you can embark on the quest. Remember you must also have reached the level of an Apprentice Wizard and have completed Lazarus' Elemental Excursion!

You can begin Lazarus' Cursed Conundrum today! After you complete the quest, your Wizardly power will be depleted and you will need to regenerate the strength necessary before continuing your quest for Blue Frost Wizard Initiate Power! The quest before you requires great wizardly power. You must have fully charged up your wizardly power before you can embark on the quest and you must have reached the level of an Apprentice Wizard!

You can begin Lazarus’ Elemental Excursion today! Why is it called EpicAges?

We have always had EpicAges as a central part of our world. One of our goals is to avoid confusion between the download desktop version of VFK and the online browser version. So, it seemed a natural choice to use EpicAges for the download version.

Is EpicAges a different world?

No, it is still VFK, but as a download desktop version.

Are there differences between the EpicAges Desktop Version and the browser version?

The EpicAges Desktop Version is faster for loading items. This is because the items are cached, so once you have seen an item, it will load virtually instantly every time after that. So, the more you use the EpicAges Desktop Version, the faster everything loads. This means blue blobs can be essentially a thing of the past.

The EpicAges Desktop Version also has enhancements to IM and other features that are available because it is a desktop version. For instance you can take pictures of your rooms, save them, and manage the pictures.

What types of computers will the download EpicAges Desktop Version work on?

Because the EpicAges Desktop Version is created using Adobe Air, it will run on all of the platforms that are supported by Adobe Air. These include most Windows and Macintosh computers.

How do I get the EpicAges Desktop Version?

The EpicAges Desktop Version is only available to those with VFK accounts. If you would like to participate in the early Beta test of the EpicAges Desktop Version there is an EpicAges item on the Menu in VFK. This will display a form, and you can submit this form to be part of the the EpicAges Beta Program.

The EpicAges Beta Program is currently restricted and there will only be a limited number of participants randomly selected each day. If you are selected you will receive a popup from staff giving you information about participating in the EpicAges Beta Program.

Can I log more than one character in at a time using the EpicAges Desktop Version?

At this time you can only login one character at a time. However, it will be possible to login more than one at the same time after the early testing is completed.

In honor of their god of war, the Romans named the planet Mars. The ancient Egyptians called it "Her Descher" which means "the red one." It is also referred to by its similar nickname, "The Red Planet." Early astronomers saw what they believed to be canals crisscrossing the surface which gave rise to the belief that Mars was inhabited by intelligent beings. VFK Roswell Incident Quest!

7:00 A.M. Pacific Time Sunday, May 17th, 2009 to 10:00 P.M. Pacific Time Monday, May 18th, 2009.

Almost sixty-two years ago, an "incident" took place in the desert on a remote ranch northwest of Roswell, New Mexico. A press release by the US military of Roswell Army Air Field was issued on the morning of July 8, 1947. It stated that "the wreckage of a crashed disk (UFO) had been recovered." The press release was sent over the wire services in time to make the afternoon edition of over thirty newspapers. After only hours, a second press release from the Fort Worth Army Air Field in Texas rescinded the first press release and claimed that the debris was from a weather balloon and its radar reflector. At the time, the public accepted the weather balloon story and the incident quietly disappeared. It has been cloaked in secrecy ever since. On today's quest, we will investigate the history of the Roswell "incident" and look into why the incident came back into the public eye, and what data is available surrounding the crashed UFO in Roswell, NM.

Member's Gifts

Macaws are the members' gift for this month. These friendly birds, originally from Mexico and Central and South America are the largest members of the parrot family. They make fun, affectionate pets and love attention from their owners.

Macaws are highly intelligent and with a little patience, you can even teach your Macaw to talk. Your Macaw already knows how to say a few words. To teach it to say more things, simply say your Macaw's name, followed by a word or phrase you want it to learn. If you repeat it enough times, your bird will learn to say it. For instance if your parrot is named Polly, and you wanted to teach it to say that it wants a cracker, you would say "Polly, Polly wants a cracker."

You can also teach your parrot to respond to a phrase, for instance when someone says "Hi" and you want your parrot to respond, "Hello! How are you?" You would say, "Polly, Hi say Hello! How are you?" Or, if someone says "Who's a pretty birdy" and you want your parrot to respond "I am!! -hugs-" Just say "Polly, Who's a pretty birdy? say I am!! -hugs-" Remember you'll have to say what you want your parrot to learn a number of times before it will learn it. (Also, remember you are responsible for what your bird says, so be sure to follow the Constitution.)

To ask your parrot to unlearn a sentence he has been taught, say:

Polly you are getting sleepy forget

and then the sentence you want him to forget. You only need to ask your parrot once to forget something.

For example, let's say your parrot's name is Polly, and you have taught your parrot to say "I want a cracker". To ask your parrot to forget that sentence, you would say:

Polly you are getting sleepy forget I want a cracker

Remember you should type the sentence which your bird has learned exactly.

To ask your parrot to forget everything it has learned, say:

Polly you are getting sleepy forget forget forget

Be very careful when using "Polly you are getting sleepy forget forget forget", because your parrot will forget EVERYTHING it has learned. Remember, you only need to ask your parrot once to forget something.

You have four species of Macaws from which to choose: Military (green), Blue and Yellow (blue with yellow markings), Scarlet (red), and Hyacinth (blue). You will need to go and pick out your favorite Macaw in the Gift Shoppe on Main Street in Victorian Age. Macaws will be available starting Thursday, February 12th, 2009.

Wild Wild West Checkers

Object of the Game
Checkers is a two player board game where each player moves in turn. The object of the game is to capture your opponent�s pieces or move your pieces to block your opponent from making a legal move. You must move on your turn. The first player who can no longer move because their pieces are blocked or because all their pieces have been captured, loses the game.

Playing Board
The square checker board is divided into 64 squares. The squares are colored red and tan alternatively in the classic "checkerboard" pattern. Play is only on the green squares.

Moving
You start with twelve checkers colored either red or blue. Pieces are placed on the green squares on the board. The red player goes first and moves the red checkers. The blue player goes second and moves the blue checkers. A piece which is not a king can move diagonally forward one square. A king can move forward or backward. Pieces either regular or a king can only move to an unoccupied square. A move can also consist of jumps.

Jumping:
An opponent's piece or king can be captured by jumping,

If your opponent's checker or king blocks your movement and there is an open space beyond it on that diagonal line in the next row, you must jump that piece. You can not jump over your own pieces.

A regular piece can make a single jump only diagonally forward. A king can make a single jump diagonally forward or backward. For multiple jumps, a piece or king can change directions, first jumping diagonally one direction then another, jumping one piece at a time. You can not jump over a piece twice. You cannot stop part way through a multiple jump, but must jump all the options available. A regular piece or a king can jump a king.

If you have more than one option to jump, you can choose the one you want. There is no requirement that you must chose a particular path based on the number and kind of pieces which can be taken.

If you jump your opponent�s piece and the space you land on has the option of jumping an additional piece, you are required to jump and capture the additional piece.

Kings
Once a piece reaches the other side, (the crownhead) of the board, it becomes a king. A king is able to move forward or backward diagonally and can jump. When your piece reaches the crownhead, it becomes a king and your turn is over. Even if you could continue and make another jump, your turn ends.

Time Limit
The time limit for your move is one minute. If you do not move your piece within the one minute time limit, you forfeit the game.

Checker Rooms
Checker rooms are available upstairs in the Mercantile. If a game is in progress in a room, either the "way out" on the right side of the room or the left side of the room will take you to another checker room.

Twilight Enchantment Epic Quest Day 1

Twilight, or the period just after sunset when the soft light is fading away to darkness has long been considered a magical time. It marks the time when the world "transforms" from day to night, and is symbolic in oral traditions of any kind of complete change.

Today we will embark on a 7 day epic quest to be able to assume the form of an animal shape. Ancient and indigenous cultures believe in "shape-shifting." Australian aboriginal elders are said to have the ability to shape-shift, and it is fundamental to the dreamtime foundations of their beliefs.

With Twilight enchantment, we will be able to "magically" assume the form of animals from birds in the air to creatures below the sea and a wide range of animals in-between.

The first animal that comes with your Twilight Enchantment will be the Wolf. With your Twilight Enchantment, you will be able to aquire additional wildlife shapes, as they become available.

Since October is also Halloween month, we will be finding out about the animals that are most closely associated with Halloween.

The Twilight Enchantment Epic Quest will be available throughout October. You can begin the quest anytime you wish during the end of this month and at anytime during October, and upon completion you will receive your Twilight Enchantment.

This first quest includes a reward of 1,000 credits and the first Twilight Enchantment pin, the Wolf Pin! As you complete each stage of this Epic Quest, you will receive a unique reward and the next Twilight Pin.

Each day you can complete the next step in the Epic Quest, receiving your new rewards and progressing towards enchantment.

Merfolk have now come to our world and each of us will have the opportunity to experience the wonders of the depths of the ocean that defines the legends surrounding merfolk lore.

However, some things in life can not be bought with gold or silver, but must instead be earned. This is true for the enchantment which makes experiencing the awe and mystery of merfolk possible.

To obtain this enchantment we have created an Epic Quest which will be available throughout September. You can begin the quest anytime you wish during this month and upon completion you will receive your Merfolk Enchantment.

There are seven quests, each with a unique reward, some of which will be needed for the next step in your journey. The first quest includes a reward of 1,000 credits and the first Merfolk Enchantment pin, the Ocean Pin! As each quest is completed, you will receive a unique reward and the next Merfolk Pin.

Each day you can complete the next step in the Epic Quest, receiving your new rewards and progressing towards enchantment.
